Driving Directions

From New York City:

From the George Washington Bridge take the Palisades Parkway North to Bear Mountain Circle about 36 miles. At Mountain Circle take 9W North for 10 miles. (Be careful not to exit onto Route 218 before this.) Exit right onto Route 218 Cornwall. Turn left at blinking light. Turn right onto Duncan Avenue (across from the bandstand). Go up Duncan Avenue for about one-half mile. The Grail is on the left.

From New Jersey:

Garden State Parkway or Route 287 to NY Thruway (follow signs to Albany). Exit 16 to Harriman. Right onto Route 32, drive 10 miles. Turn right to Cornwall, Route 107. Turn onto Hasbrouck Avenue at traffic circle. Turn left on Ridge Road (top of the hill at the Golf Course). Ridge Road becomes Duncan Avenue. The Grail is on the right, approximately 1 mile.

Train transportation from New York City

Metro North Railroad

From Grand Central Station, the Hudson Line goes to Beacon, N.Y. There are trains approximately every hour beginning in the early morning. You can access the schedule on the Web. Enter your preferred date and time of travel between Grand Central Station and Beacon, N.Y.

From Beacon you can take a taxi across the river to Cornwall-on-Hudson, a distance of about 10 miles. Taxi fare is set by the NY State Taxi & Limousine Commission and is about $20 to cross two zones to the Grail Retreat Center. You may want to contact a taxi service prior to your arrival in Beacon, particularly if you arrive during rush hour. Some local taxi services are listed here for your convenience; only Bob’s is listed on the Grail’s website:

Bob’s Taxi of Newburgh (845) 561-8330
A Beacon Cab Service (845) 625-6422
Valley Classic Transport (845) 440-7881

New Jersey Transit

Take NJ Transit from Penn Station to Salisbury Mills-Cornwall Station (note that you will need to change trains at Secaucus Junction to the Main and Bergen Co. Line, which terminates at Port Jervis). This schedule is less frequent than Metro-North to Beacon, but is cheaper (particularly round trip and senior tickets), and Salisbury Mills-Cornwall Station is closer to The Grail than Beacon. From Salisbury Mills-Cornwall Station you can catch a taxi. Catch one at the station, or see the list above for names of companies serving the area.

Click here for NJ Transit schedules.

Bus transportation from New York City

Short Line Bus Service runs from Port Authority (8th Ave. at 41 St.) to Vail’s Gate, NY. The ride takes about 1.5 hours; round trip fares are about the same as those for NJ Transit trains. Vail’s Gate is a 10-minute drive from the Grail, so you will need to call a taxi to pick you up (see list above).
