Kenkō started sitting at a nascent Village Zendo affiliate in Northampton, MA, called Zen on Main in 2001 – where he helped create and build a community practice place. He received Jukai with the Village Zendo in 2005 and served as Shuso with Anraku Sensei in 2011 after Zen on Main became Shin-Jin (Body-Mind) Temple. After the Shin-Jin temple space in Northampton closed in 2013, he reconnected with the Village Zendo mother temple, where he became a formal student in 2015. He has been deepening his Zen studies, first with Enkyo Roshi, and more recently with Fusho Sensei.
Kenkō has continued to cultivate space for communal Zen practice in Northampton with fellow long-term practitioners at the Oxbow Zen Sangha in Northampton. He has also been co-hosting a weekly faculty-staff online meditation at Westfield State University for many years. He lives in Northampton with his partner Roger Jo-Ei Stawasz.
