The Robert Kaku Gunn Financial Assistance Fund

The Robert Kaku Gunn Financial Assistance Fund provides aid to Village Zendo Members who need financial assistance to attend Village Zendo retreats. It is wholly funded by private donations.

Requests for assistance from the Fund are reviewed by a committee whose current members are Roshis Pat Enkyo O’Hara, Barbara Joshin O’Hara, and Randall Ryotan Eiger.  Requests for assistance should be directed to Ryotan Roshi at

Requests for financial aid are evaluated based on a Member’s committed relationship with the Village Zendo and the committee members’ knowledge of their life circumstances and practice.

If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation to the Fund, you may do so here.

Robert Kaku Gunn

The Village Zendo Scholarship Fund was renamed the Robert Kaku Gunn Financial Assistance Fund after a generous donation was made to the Fund in memory of Kaku Sensei, who passed away in 2021. You can learn more about Kaku’s life at this link.
