Work for Dharma Day

Monday, May 20

Dear Friends and Sangha Members,

The Village Zendo has been a refuge of continuous practice, through good times and bad, for more than 35 years.

In 2001, a year after the Village Zendo opened its first stand-alone center on Varick Street, planes crashed into the World Trade Center less than a mile away. But practice continued.

In 2008, when the Village Zendo had recently occupied its 11th floor space at 588 Broadway, the stock market went into freefall and the financial system teetered on the brink of collapse. But practice continued.

Most recently, we have been saddened, even traumatized, by the lockdowns and deaths that followed the advent of Covid19 – but practice continued and we emerged with a beautiful new Zendo space and a vibrant online sangha.

In an impermanent and unstable world it is vital to have a peaceful space for contemplation, practice and the support of a likeminded community. And whether we are beginners or long-time practitioners, the Village Zendo provides that space for all of us.

On Monday, May 20, we’ll have an opportunity to express our appreciation on Work for Dharma Day, the Village Zendo’s annual Spring fundraiser. On this day, the members of our sangha and extended sangha, whether in town or online, will join their efforts in support of an institution that provides us with an oasis of peace in a troubled and unstable world.

Participating in Work for Dharma Day is simple but so important: we donate all or a portion of what we earn for that day to the Village Zendo. Won’t you support our community’s practice by contributing? We gratefully appreciate donations of any size.

Donations may be made using the form below, or by mailing a check to :

By working for the Dharma on May 20, you will make it possible for us to share our practice, through good times and bad, for many years to come.

Sincerely,

The Village Zendo Executive Committee
