Navah Torei Steiner
Our summer 2025 Shuso Hossen Ceremony is Saturday, August 2 at 7:00pm, at Wisdom House in Litchfield, Connecticut. Shuso Hossen is a joyous celebration marking a student’s promotion to the rank of Senior. It takes place at the conclusion of the intensive training period of Ango, during which the student serves as a model and practice leader. Torei will give their first Dharma Talk and will take questions from the community in a ceremonial conversation known as Dharma Combat. As such, it is a participatory and deeply moving experience for all.
Torei is a psychotherapist who focuses on issues of self-exploration, creativity, and healing; and an activist advocating for peace and justice in Israel and Palestine. Torei has been a part of our community since 2008. Over the years, they have practiced regularly at the Zendo in the mornings, participated in retreats, supported our liturgy as Ino or chant leader, and made practice an integral part of their personal life and collective engagements.
No registration required. For those who cannot attend in person, the ceremony will be streamed. To watch this event on our YouTube channel, click the button below. The streaming will not be interactive.
