“How miraculous and wondrous —
Hauling water and carrying firewood!”
Layman Pang (740–808) is renowned as one of the great Zen adepts of ancient China. He never ordained as a monk, yet he, his wife and his children studied the Way and achieved deep insight. Layman Pang”s life and teaching offer an example of the freedom and grounded wisdom available to lay men and women practicing in the world. This evening will explore the challenges of lay spiritual practice in our own lives and how the message of Layman Pang and his family speaks to us.
