Sanghas Supporting Refugees

A grassroots team of local volunteers from the Village Zendo and other New York area Buddhist groups have formed Sanghas Supporting Refugees to resettle a refugee family escaping violence, persecution and hardship. We are currently looking for volunteers and are raising money to support the family.

We are partnering with HIAS, the global Jewish nonprofit that has protected refugees for more than 140 years. HIAS offers a proven framework with five pathways to welcome refugees and help them integrate into their communities and build new lives. Our own volunteers have formed committees to facilitate each pathway: housing, health, education, employment and community connections, to help a refugee family plant their feet on local soil.

If you would like to volunteer or get more information, please email Doshin at sanghassupportingrefugees@villagezendo.org

Once we are paired with a family our first task will be to find housing. If you or someone you know may be able to help us locate either temporary or permanent housing please contact us.

If you would like to contribute financially to the effort please make a tax deductible donation below.
