Please join us for Village Zendo’s Summer Ango Online Retreat. Ango, translated as “peaceful dwelling”, is a time for each of us to turn the light inward and deepen our practice. Traditionally we go away on retreat for a month to do this, but this year we are holding an in-person Summer Sesshin at Wisdom House, followed by this Online Retreat, bringing the temple right here, in our homes, together and apart, on Zoom. Summer Ango will culminate with Willie Mukei Smith’s Shuso Hossen ceremony on Sunday, August 22.
This week we will offer a diverse range of arts-themed workshops incorporating the theme of our study text, Dogen’s Instructions to the Cook. These workshops will be led by longtime sangha members and VZ faculty, all skilled facilitators and teachers of their craft. Alongside the arts workshops we will be offering zazen in the mornings and evenings. To participate in the workshops, registration is required. All zazen periods are open to all, free of charge, no registration needed.
Hope to see you there for some or all of it!
For questions, please contact our registrar at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Listeningwith Tokuyu Hoshi
This workshop will explore how we perceive and experience sound, and see what arises when bearing witness with our ears. Through different exercises we will explore what it means to listen from the heart, what that means for you and how it makes you feel. You may be surprised!
A good pair of headphones is strongly recommended.
Pianist Jeremy Tokuyu Manasia has been a fixture on the New York City jazz scene for over 20 years, as an in-demand sideman, bandleader, composer, recording artist, and educator. His 6 records as a leader spotlight more than 40 compositions, and his bebop rooted, soulful, impressionistic sound on the piano.
