Dharma Transmission
Barbara Joshin O’Hara

On April 15, 2006, Barbara Joshin O’Hara received dharma transmission at the Village Zendo in Manhattan.
Sensei Joshin was supported in her transmission ceremonies by the Zendo senior students. The ceremony was witnessed by Sensei Janet Abels of the Still Mind Zendo.
Sensei Joshin is the first dharma successor of Roshi Enkyo O’Hara.
Joshin began her formal training in Zen with a 3-year residency at Zen Mountain Monastery over twenty years ago. She studied with Daido Loori Roshi for seven years and has been studying, practicing, and helping to run the Village Zendo with her life-long partner, Enkyo O’Hara Roshi, since 1990. She was given Dharma Holder (Asst Teacher) status in 2004.
Joshin is a licensed clinical social worker with a private practice in the Village. Informed by 8 years of studying the Diamond Heart work, she’s interested in helping practitioners work through the conditioning that hinders self-realization.
A native of Dublin, Ireland, Barbara Joshin O’Hara is also interested in cross-cultural issues and is a lecturer in intercultural communication at NYU
