Schedule
The Village Zendo offers a full schedule for meditation practice throughout the week. We come together for zazen (sitting meditation), kinhin (walking meditation) and dharma talks. If you are not a dues-paying member, the suggested donation is $10.
Beginning Instruction
Monday evenings, 6:30pm – 8:30pm.
Beginning instruction is available for those who are new to Zen meditation or who have not practiced meditation in a zendo before. Posture and forms will be covered as well as instruction on how to begin a meditation practice. An optional small group discussion is available for questions. Suggested donation is $10.
Sunday Morning Program
9:30am – 12:30pm
Chanting service, zazen and dharma talk by Roshi Enkyo O’Hara or a senior student.
Service and three periods of zazen: 9:30am – 11:45am
Dharma talk: 11:45am – 12:30pm
The first Sunday of each month we follow a different schedule and offer Council, an opportunity to practice speaking and listening from the heart.
Zazen: 9:30am – 10:45am
Council: 10:45am – 12:15pm
Weekday Mornings:
Zazen from 7:30 – 8:30 am, Monday through Friday.
Weekday Mid-day:
Zazen from 12:30 – 1:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

Chanting service 5:00 pm – 5:30; zazen 5:30 – 6:05; kinhin 6:05 – 6:15;
zazen 6:15 – 7:00 pm.
– Wednesday
Zazen 5:30 pm – 6:05; kinhin 6:05 – 6:15; zazen 6:15 – 7:00 pm.
– Thursday
Dharma talk or monthly ceremony of atonement (fusatsu) is offered, following two periods of zazen.
Zazen 6:30 pm – 7:00; kinhin 7:00 – 7:10; zazen 7:10 – 7:40; kinhin 7:40 – 7:50;
dharma talk or fusatsu, 7:50 – 8:30 pm.
– Friday
Closed in the evening.
Individual Interviews with Teachers
Formal interview with a teacher is a traditional opportunity for students to ask questions or briefly discuss their practice. Formal students of the zendo are given preference. Interview is usually offered:
Mornings: Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
Evenings: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
