Village Zendo One-Day Retreat
The Village Zendo’s monthly one-day retreats (zazenkai) are a great way to experience a short, intensive meditation retreat right here in the city.
The Village Zendo holds a zazenkai on one Saturday each month. See our calendar for upcoming zazenkais.
During our winter Ango period (January, February and March), the schedule is from 8:00am to 8:00pm. Outside of winter Ango, the schedule is from 8:00am to 5:00pm. Each retreat features sitting meditation (zazen), a dharma talk, a Zen ritual meal (oryoki), and private interview (dokusan or daisan) with Roshi Pat Enkyo O’Hara and/or the teaching staff at the Village Zendo. The program concludes with the regular Sunday Morning program (service, three periods of zazen, dharma talk) from 9:30am to 12:30pm.
Pre-registration required: $25 for members, $50 for non-members. People are welcome to come for the entire day or any portion of it, but need to inform the registrar in advance: registrar@villagezendo.org.
Instruction is available for those who are unfamiliar with Zen rituals and procedures. Please make sure to tell the registrar in advance if you need instruction.
