In addition to our daily sitting schedule, workshops, and programs, we offer retreats throughout the year to provide opportunities to deepen our practice. Financial assistance is available.
The Village Zendo’s monthly one-day retreat (zazenkai) is a great way to experience a short, intensive meditation retreat right here in the city.
People are welcome to come for the entire day or any portion of it, but need to inform the registrar in advance.
Instruction is available for those who are unfamiliar with Zen rituals and procedures. Please make sure to contact the registrar in advance if you need instruction.
During our winter Ango period (January, February and March), the schedule is from 8:00am to 8:00pm. Outside of winter Ango, the schedule is from 8:00am to 5:00pm. You may participate in all or any part, but please register in advance. Full information about zazenkais here.
Each year there is an Urban Sesshin in March to provide an opportunity to experience an intensive practice period in the city. A theme is selected and participants visit sites around the city to examine aspects of the theme.
There are two intensive practice periods each year. The first begins the last week in July with a four-week practice period at Grail House in Cornwall on Hudson, NY.
The second intensive practice period begins December 26th and goes through March. It begins with our year-end sesshin (silent meditation retreat) at the Garrison Institute in Garrison, NY. The ango continues with programs and retreats in New York City, culminating in Urban Sesshin in late March.
The 2014 Year-End Retreat will include a full retreat from Dec 26, 2014 – Jan 1, 2015, as well as a weekend retreat from Dec 26 – 28, 2014. For further information, please visit www.villagezendo.org/year-end-meditation-retreat-2014/
