Shuso Hossen for R. Liam Oshin Jennings

Shuso Hossen is a ceremonial rite-of-passage marking a student’s promotion to the rank of Senior. It takes place at the conclusion of the intensive training period of Ango during which the student serves as a model to the sangha or community. The event is both a crucible and an empowerment for the student in that their understanding is tested by the community. As such, it is a participatory and deeply moving experience for all. At shuso hossen, the shuso gives his or her first dharma talk and takes questions from the community in a ceremonial conversation known as dharma dialogue.

Shuso R. Liam Oshin Jennings will give his first dharma talk and take questions from the community in a ceremonial conversation known as dharma dialogue.

Ceremony begins at 9:30 am and concludes with celebratory refreshments Please signup on the sheet if you intend to be at ceremony. We need to know how many people to expect. A suggested donation of $20:00 will help defray the cost of refreshments

Ox Herding Pictures

From ancient time, all traditions have set up ‘paths’ of spiritual development.  The Zen Ox-Herding Pictures show the passage from initiation – the search for self - to a maturation of insight and return to ordinary life.

What is it to awaken in a postmodern scientific era?  What are the contours of practice in a time of unprecedented technological, economic, and ecological change?

This ten month class will explore what it means to wake up in a world that more than ever requires our awakening.  We will find out what stories we need to awaken from in order to discover what new stories we may create.

The texts we’ll use are:  David Loy’s The World is Made of Stories (required), the Ten Ox Herding Pictures (supplied) and short, thoughtful supplementary readings from contemporary writers (also supplied).

The monthly classes will include lecture, discussion, exercises and journal writing.

Fee $600.  Class size is limited.

Payment in full is due at time of registration.   Contact
